Lord of the Rings:  The Fellowship of the Ring by J R R Tolkien p. 150- 220

I think in the book Lord of the Rings:  The Fellowship of the Ring by J R R Tolkien the most important character is Frodo.  In the begining of the book Frodo recieves a ring that contains an extreme amount of power in which he has to destroy.  Sam is his guardian that helps Frodo Baggins to destroy the ring.  Frodo Baggins lives in The Shire and was adopted by another adventurer named Bilbo Baggins.  Bilbo founded the ring in a cave but didn’t know it originally belonged to the evil Sauron dark lord of Mordor.  In an ancient battle of Middle Earth Sauron was killed by a human and the ring was forgotten.  It went through Sauron, Smegal, Bilbo and finally to Frodo.  Frodo must destroy the ring but little does he know the ring has powers that he is attracted to.  Frodo and Sam must journey the extremely long route to Mordor to Mt. Doom to destroy the ring.  During this journey he is confronted by many evil creatures such as orcs, dark riders, trolls, and dragons.  Here is a review on Frodo Baggins.

Thus begins one of the best classic fantasy quests of all time. There is no way to summarize the first of the trilogy in a short review. The characters are fascinating, from the Hobbits through the Wizard, the elves, the dwarves, the Orcs, the Riders, and the Men. This is not just a story of good beings against evil beings, but of people within themselves as well.  My brother Andy showed me the books and movies and went to every movie at the movie theater.  I was not old enough to see it in the theater and my parents did not want me seeing it so I just waited for it to come out on DVD.  The first book was not really The Lord of the Rings:  The Fellowship of the Ring it actually started with The Hobbit.  The Hobbit was also written by J.R.R. Tolkien but many do not even know the book exists.  I have read on many review online that it is very important to read The Hobbit before reading the other books because you can understand the rest of the books much easier.  Here is a review on J.R.R Tolkien’s book  The Lord of the Rings:  The Fellowship of the Ring.

How tolkein ever managed to create such a completely different and complex world from that of our own, give it an entire history and several languages i’ll probably never know. the three books of the trilogy are absolutley amazing. philip pullman is humble compared to tolkein (and that is a big thing for me, a massive pullman fan to say). and as for rowling? yes, they are good books but they are nothing, i repeat nothing compared to the works of tolkein. but what i want to know from tolkein (and pullman and dickinson and nix and mccaffrey and all the other authors im mad about) is where they get there ideas from. i mean what could enspire someone to write up a whole world, an entire universe? theres nothing wrong with it, gods no, because then we would have nothing good to read, but i just could not do thiat. i would loose intrest and patience way too fast.  I have loved watching the movie also while reading along with the book so i could get a better view of what i am actually reading or to calibrate what i have read.

A Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins – pp. 250-350

Peter Jenkins is the author of the book. Peter begins his story when he is in college. Peter comes to the realization that life isn’t worth living in America and that this may be the worst of all countries. It is then that Peter is challenged to take a closer look at this country before he decides to abandon it. Peter Jenkins will come across people living in ways that he couldn’t have imagined. Peter, raised in a family with money, will see hard working Americans that live off the land. The realization that there is so much more to this country than Peter had realized will be life changing for him.  I especially like this book because there is a lot of adventure and suprizes that come up that you wouldn’t expect.  People that read this book, I think realize, that America is both a good country because there is a lot of welcoming people but also there are some that aren’t.  Here is a review of the book by Peter Jenkins that I have looked at and liked it.  My brother is starting to read it too after I told him about it.

A Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins – pp. 200-250

In in book, “A Walk Across America” the author Peter Jenkins talks about how life just throws a bunch of curve balls and that America is one crazy country that has so much things to give.  Personaly this book has opened my eys to see how life can be spent doing very cool and adventurous things.  Like how I plan to move out west and take pictures of skiers for a liveg and just live life to the fullest.  The message that this book gives off must change almost every reader showing how America is a great country in how fortunate we are living here but in other places in this country it is very different.  While reading this book I have started to not take as many things for granted because through reading, “A Walk Across America” Peter Jenkins shows how many of us take so many things for granted when we shouldn’t because millions of others don’t have half of what we even get for Christmas.  This book also makes you look around and it shows how people don’t realize that what we have is a fantastic gift that we should be so thankful of. 

A Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins – pp. 100-200

My favorite character in this book has been Peter.  I like him because his idea of walking across America is so ambitious it makes me want to do something like that.  Peter always thinks he is the smallest thing apart of something way bigger than himself.  With this trait he always tries to leave the smallest imprint on the earth and in nature so he is not harming any of the wildlife that lives there.  Peter is very determined to walk across America.  He has given up a number of jobs and opportunities that he turned down because he is so motivated to keep proceeding.  Peter Jenkins used the sentence,” Each step is one step closer to the end.” which described how he felt about his journey.  Even if he had wanted so badly to stop and quit he had a mental push to keep himself to advance to the next town or where ever.  He is also very caring towards his dog Cooper.  If Cooper wasn’t feeling well or didn’t live up to his full potential, Peter would give his time and effort to him and make sure that if he could do anything to make Cooper feel better he would do it.  Here is an interview with the author and explorer of America.

A Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins – pp. 50- 100

My initial response to this book was that it will be a long read.  But then the first few chapters I was blown away as I knew it was based on a true story..  It is about this guy, Peter Jenkins, that walks across America because he doesn’t know his country well and would like to get to know how it functions.  And so, Peter goes from just graduating from college and gets a divorce with his wife and decides to walk across America with his dog Cooper.  He trained for many months with his dog running a route that would prepare the excruciating walk across the United States.  Along his journey he would interact with people to see how they lived and what they thought about the country.  Peter started off by looking around for light but durable camping gear and asked everyone who that could help him out.  Once he got his gear it was time for him to set off walking.  He first went to Washington D.C.  While there he went to National Geographic and asked if he could get a camera to record his journey.  Here is a review of the author Peter Jenkins.

A Walk Across America by Peter Jenkins

I picked out this book because my brother Andy is really into back packing and hiking and being out enjoying the wilderness.  This summer he planned to go on a trip with me, him, my other brother Charlie, and by dad.  He thought it would be a great experience if it was the men of the house hiking out in Tobemory, Canada.  We got all geared up for this amazing excursion to go up packing light weight clothing and all.   I really got a feel of what he lives for basically.   That week of backpacking in Canada was one of the best weeks I had ever had in my entire life.  My brother during the trip was telling me about the book and how truly ensperational it was and how it changes your outlook on how you see the country and how the life style varies in different pieces of the it.  So, after the trip I never started reading it because I’m not the biggest fan of reading so one day in school I was thinking about the trip and about the book and finally I just figured I should just read it because it can be for my english assignment.  Here is a picture of the book cover.

The Shack by William Paul Young- pp. 270-310

My initial response to this book was it was going to be an extremely boring book that gets way too much into detail and it would be a very long and a pain to read.  Many things have surprized me in this book, like how William P. Young used the title in the chapter to really symbolize what is going on in the that chapter.  Shown in chapter 3 in the book it is called “The Great Sadness”, this tells that something sad of course is going to happen but it really took a surprizing, emotional strike on me because it was a death of the man’s daughter that was kidnapped and killed.  I find this to be an average book because, well, I’m a slower reader and some of the words in the book are harder to understand and some scenes that are explained are also difficult to comprehend.  I have been listening to The Shack on tape as I read along and I have noticed that it goes at a much faster pace and I can comprehand the whole plot much better.  I have finally finished the book and it was great.  Here is a review of the shack

The Shack by William Paul Young- pp. 206-270

This book has affected me.  It has affected me by making me more open to the thought of the perspective on what i precieve the Trinity as, and other things.  The book has affected the way i see the Trinity by in the story the Trinity, God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, used their characters as: God being a black women, Jesus being a middle eastern guy, and the Holy Spirit as a little asian women.  I origanally thought that God would be a big old man with a white beard, and I thought Jesus would be, well what Jesus looks like in pictures, and I thought the Holy Spirit would be a glowing orb like thing that wouldn’t really do anything.  The story has also affected me in showing no matter if you drift away from being in contact with God, he will never leave your side.  Another way I have been affected by the story is by Jesus being a “holy” figure does not mean that he could do an amazing mirical just to do it, he had to do a merical in the way of what God had planned.  Here is a review of the Shack.
